Echoes from

Landscapes

ECHOES project activities take place between May 2016 and July 2018 throughout the Alp Adriatic Region.

Each curatorial group invites artists and cultural actors to participate in their site-specific projects, and sends participants to collaborate with partner groups, ensuring exchange within the network and encouraging artistic mobility.

Enterprise Z (coordinator) will arrange two inter-medial artistic Happenings with artists from partner countries, rural & urban audiences. Marketing, press & PR strategies will also be carried out by the coordinator from the outset.

Mani doo will organize communication between partners, apply the central ECHOES concept to all partners’ project activities to ensure continuity & recognizability of the network and curate ECHO radio, an ambitious art & communication project. The live-streamed international broadcasting event is the climax of ECHOES project activities, gathering acoustic resonances from partners’ projects and presenting them as elements of a radio art piece together with field recordings gathered for the radio event across at least 4 European partner stations.

Zveza Mink Tolmin will present ECHOES projects at Sajeta festival and various initiatives in and around Tolmin, crossing over into other countries, carrying the resonance of the project into other collaborations and international fields in workshops, performances, exhibitions, media work and the Javorca chapel project thematising 100 years of the Soca front from WWI with composer Bratko Bibic, which will be A/V streamed to various locations across Europe.

Wieser Verlag will arrange a high calibre “think tank” to extend the scope beyond art and academic practice to policy makers, politicians and social agents and publish the ECHOES art book and DVD/CD, an accumulation of echoes and their resonances. Wieser will also present ECHOES in an ongoing series of public readings, project presentations and spoken word performances with ECHOES musicians in Klagenfurt/Celovec and internationally, with a particularly broad resonance and networking at international book fairs and in the publisher’s work in radio and TV broadcasting.

Klagenfurt University will conduct an art-based field research project in the poisoned landscape of Görtschitztal, where the earth and significantly cattle fodder were contaminated by waste from local factories in 2014. The project will result in presentations, exhibitions and analytical reports. The implications and changes to the local communities’ relationship with their surroundings will be investigated by a combined team of anthropologists and artists, whose engagement with the people and landscape will be manifested in analytical and artistic work that will travel to partner countries, documenting the echoes of a (politically) abandoned valley, harvesting and creating echoes together with the local populations, whose self-portraits are central to the project.
